American Thresholds is a series of studies on America based on a new cultural approach. The series does not have a “Eurocentric,” Hispano-Catholic or Anglo-Protestant slant, but aims to be a forum expressing convergences and contradictions in the multiple cultures giving rise to the “American” ethnos on the new Continent.
American Thresholds brings together various historical, ideological, economic and linguistic views which may, however, be analyzed through the shared experience of settling on the continent.
American Thresholds interprets America through the voices of people who have entered the country and dialectically provide a composite, global, multicultural and transnational image.
The studies in the series refer to the complementary way distinct components have given rise to a picture of geo-historical Americanness. Hence the concept of a threshold for cultures which are intercommunicating or otherwise related rather than a boundary delimiting cultural or ethnic distinctions.

The series is the outcome of collaboration between Mazzanti Editori and ten Italian faculties of foreign language and literature.
